Why pet sites are getting hit? Who knows. A theory why (based on observations I have made):

1.) Pet sites tend to be small and run by people who might be less than savvy when it comes to systems administration and web server setup.

2.) Even if the Administrator is knowledgeable--such as Tristan--they can make mistakes that leave the server vunerable to attack.

3.) Then add nasty SOB(s) who think it's fun to "play around" with code and send their cr*p over the Internet for whatever malicious motivation--or just plain malice--they have to whatever site(s) they have decided they want to <bleep!> around with, and guess what happens? Yep. A DDoS (if that is what they want to do; there are countless other ways to mess up a web site remotely) to literally make the site "disappear" until the attack is discovered and can be fixed.

Hmmm...I have never heard of a "Mystic-12" bot. New one...could be a clue as to the culprit.

Hmmm...what were the dates of the other DDoS attacks? I am wondering if all or almost all of those attacks correspond to any important dates for MS. After all, our Anniversary is tomorrow. As I recall, we did have an attack last spring about this time. If I am not mistaken, some of the other "down time" periods were also at high-traffic periods such as before (American) holidays.

As to the identity of Mystic-12? I would not rely on Wikipedia alone. Anyway, "Mystic-12" has to do with UFOs, NOT with disruption of Internet service, at least at the linked article. But the disambiguation page link DOES come up with a more suitable explanation:

So ever since MS came back up my computer doesn't like MS as much. It's running slow and Google Chrome's task manager says that this site is taking up a lot of memory (like 440k or 700k at one point). I'm just wondering if Tristan's security upgrades is messing with the site in a bad way.
