Glow wrote:Well, this is my first attempt ever at pixel art! Yaaaaay! Um. But that means I'm really bad at this. I would appreciate feedback and advice. Thanks Niwer for answering my questions! Partial credit goes to Magistream because I used the Direwolf egg as a template. The adult is all mine, and theres no hatchling yet because...well it sucked so bad it would burn your eyes.

This is supposed to be a Black Dog, otherwise known as a Padfoot or Gytrash or Hell's Dog. In British legend it's a spirit of death. Harry Potter fans might recognize this because before they found out the mysterious black dog was Sirius Black, everyone thought it was the Grim, Rowling's name for this beast.

First attempt? It's amazing! The only thing I might do is make it a little lighter. I know it's a black dog, but without a darker background the contrast hurts my eyes a bit.

But, seriously, great work. :t-wave:

Hm. I see. Maybe I can tamper with the opacity a bit and just wash it out some without having to redo the colors...would that work?

But thank you so much for the compliment! Now I've got to redo that hatchling. D:

I would add some -slightly- lighter shades of gray where hilights would be- it would make things so much easier to see :D

But that's awesome for your first attempt! :D

I think messing with the brightness/contrast levels would work best, but there's different ways to do it.

Can't wait to see how the hatchling turns out. :t-:)

Yeah- take my advice with a grain of salt XD I tend to treat digital art like traditional art- a bad habit from years of coloring with pencils and a new tablet I've only really used for a couple months :yarly:

No it's fine, I'm grateful for the critique. Last night when I was doing this it was so difficult to do the shading. I kept thinking "give me a pencil! D: "

but here are some experiments. are any of them better? The first one is the original

EDIT: WHERE did those weird pics come from?! Nothing to see here, people!

Personally, I like the third one best. :D
