Hey Munin I did this today because i was bored. I dont' want a critique for it because I love it lots already. I messed up and didn't save the dragon by itself But I'm sure I can improve later. So here it is.
P.S. my shadows had a little fun

I tried drawing a frog myself, this time.

Hey Munin
Since I can't use photoshop on my computer anymore I tried something in MS Paint. He took about 7 hours to make. Could I get your thoughts on my picture?
I might start working in MS paint more often when I get a new computer This is pixel art and not a sprite a friend told me sprites are small while he is giant

He's also in my signature to match the lovely sprite of Kira you made
Thanks so much I appreciate any advice

So I was bored tonight and did my first sprite. I think I did pretty well. It's a shadow egg of course. I didn't want to do the transparent background because I did this in paint and for some reason photoshop messes with paint and doesn't seem to like it. So here's my first sprite EVER.

For those of you who do not know German:
Herbstblatt has been describing the things she had trouble with while drawing that frog, mainly the legs and the shading. She also asked if it is easier to try to "replicate" a reference or if it is easier to concentrate on the correct anatomy and not bother about deviations from the ref.
I answered her that the whole drawing is a bit too stiff and graphic for an animal in my opinion and that she needs to be a bit more bold in her shading. I also think that staying as close as possible to a reference is easiest in the beginning as even if you know the anatomy well you still have to take into account shading and perspective. Further having a reference helps people like me to give hints and tips what to change as we both have the same image we compare the drawing to.

(Just a question...why not use GIMP if PS doesn´t work anymore? I could imagine that´s way easier...)
Pose and colouring are great. Shading is a bit limited but that is to be expected using Paint and the style you used to solve that looks very good.
What I would recommend and what will be horrible to do with paint I guess is trying to clean the lines a bit better. In many places there are odd angles, absolutely flat lines, double pixels etc. With a pixel drawing as large as this I fully understand that it is a lot harder to get clean lines than it is for sprites but I think it would improve the overall appearance.
But as I said, that is already impressive as it is.

First rule for a sprite: Never ever, NEVER save it as a jpg. It completely destroys a sprite.DarkRider wrote:So I was bored tonight and did my first sprite. I think I did pretty well. Thus I cannot say anything about your technique or any details unfortunately.
What I can still see is that your lighting looks a bit odd to me. The light seems to be coming from the front-up which is very unusual. The shape of the light spot/"shading rings" is a bit too narrow so that the shading does not fit the shape of the egg (it suggests a much narrower shape).
Further I am a bit confused as to whether the shadow tendrils throw shadows on the egg or not. If they do the one at the top left needs an additional shadow.

Ok Gottcha never save as a JPEG. What would I save it as? A GIF? How thick should I make the shading lines? I didn't know that first off and was testing it.
I did mention a while back that I'm not that great at choosing lighting......I would like to improve that ^^
Thanks for the tips. Any further tips could be used
