Aie, so much for being back regularly, I need to get used to checking back here first it seems, sorry everyone xD
Thanks for the welcome! I´ll check back more regularly from now on, promise. I should have re-bookmarked Magistream right away instead of assuming I´d remember after being gone so long.
And to answer that question...yes, I am Dr. Munin now (although it hasn´t done me any good so far xD)

Re: Munin´s art
I know what you mean. x'D I have a B.A. in Mathematics and I haven't been able to get a job with it (place I was going to apply for started firing people for budget reasons) and where I work now people are wondering why I work there. People keep telling me I should get a teaching job, but with those I'd have to go to college full time for another year or more to complete and I don't have the money for that. I already owe my parents a ton of money. *sigh* And then on top of that my mom is getting frustrated how life has been going for her family that doesn't live close to us and the deaths the past few years that she's taking it out on us now. So I have to hide in my room just to avoid her, that's how bad it is. =( *hugs Munin*

*hugs back*
Getting a job is really hard these days. I had always wanted to stay in science and what I did during my time at the university was all geared towards that...then I WAS in science for four years and now I know it is not for me. Not because of what I was doing but because of the dismal financial situation of universities and research facilities. Almost everyone has limited contracts, you cannot stay in one place for more than three years and have to start a new life somewhere else after those years are over...I just cannot do that.
I moved back in with my mother for the time being which is ok, usually we get along just fine but I miss having my own place quite a bit to be honest. But it´s good that I can be there for her at the moment because my stepdad died in August. He died three days before I got my doctorate...at the funeral everyone congratulated me which felt so incredibly wrong I can hardly put it into words.

Re: Munin´s art
*hugs Munin* I'm sorry about your stepdad.
You're so right about jobs in science being hard to find right now. I just recently got a biology degree, and no one seems to have the funding to hire anyone right now, even though biotech is supposedly on the upswing. Every technician job that comes out has about 800000000 applicants. So I'm living with my parents right now. I finally found a place that's willing to hire me, but the job is a temporary one and it's literally relabeling a million vials. Really nothing biology related except they wanted someone with lab experience to do it because the vials contain nasty chemicals.

Kestrad has been eaten by life. She'll probably pop back in occasionally.

Re: Munin´s art
Poor Munin, I'm sorry to hear that. *hugs more* What are you currently doing then if you can't really get a job with your degree? I used to work at a store where I was over worked and under appreciated, I ran the customer service desk at a store and the managers were trying to get me to do their work even though I was the only register open and had a ton of work to do myself most of the time. It's so bad working there that they've had three managers quit in the span of a year.

*more hugs for everyone*
I hope to get a job somewhere within the next months. xD I still get unemployment benefits (hope that´s the right term) for a while and they even pay for me to go to a kind of "application coach" that´ll hopefully help me get better at applying for the few jobs that are available. We´ll see how that goes xD

Re: Munin´s art
Yeah, that would be the right term. I couldn't get unemployment because I hadn't worked for three years while going to college, and then when I put my info up in the job search it either kept giving me things on the other side of the country or things I wasn't qualified for. The job market here is pretty slim pickings, so I had to get a job I really didn't want to go back to, it had a couple pros but way too many cons. But I got a slightly better one now, but I'm trying to get a job elsewhere because a store showed interest in hiring me. And I was even given the business card for a realtor who wants me to work for them. o.o;
Re: Munin´s art
I was an employee of the University during my PhD for almost 4 years so luckily I qualified. I would love to find a job somewhere close to home, mostly because of my mother because I hardly have any family left except for her. But I doubt I´ll manage that and apply to jobs all across the country and even the neighbouring countries that I´d feel comfortable moving to (not too keen on moving to southern Europe because I am just not made to live in countries that have temperatures exceeding 40°C for weeks on end xD).
The main thing is...for almost all jobs you need to have work experience. But if no one gives me a job without work experience, how am I to ever get said experience?! It´s crazy.

(our telephone AND internet were down for two days straight now... our phone company is definitely going to hear about this *grumbles*)
They have really stupid guidelines regarding internships. If I took even an unpaid internship I would loose the claim on my unemployment benefits because "I am no longer available to the job market". So even though I would love to start an internship somewhere to gain some more experience I am not allowed to as long as I want to get money from the government.
