The Renku (Chain Poem)

Post by eppy »

Hello! I saw a few chain poem threads but nothing on Renku. A renku is a linked chain, usually 32 verses long. I'll just list the basics.

The first stanza (paragraph)
  • * must be about the current season
    * must be 3 lines long
All stanzas
  • * Stanzas follow a pattern: 3 lines, 2 lines, 3 lines, 2 lines. i.e. if the poster above you posted 3 lines, you post 2.
    * First line of your stanza must 'link' to something in the stanza directly BEFORE yours
    * second to last stanza must contain the word blossom
    * All seasons must be mentioned at some point.
Example:

Stanza 1: Colourful leaves rustle in the breeze
Dying from the longer nights
Birds flee the approaching winds

Stanza 2 (linking to Birds from stanza 1): Birds fly peacefully to lands far south
Where coldness will not reach

Stanza 3 will then be 3 lines, mostly about one word from stanza 2.. and so on.

Let's start! (since it is currently Autumn, my stanza will be based on autumn!:

Dying leaves crunch underfoot
Cold rain pours over yellowing grasses
Skies darken in advance of icy winds
