So it just occurred to me, since I have suddenly been visiting MagiStream lately, that I should stay long enough to do another poetry writing contest for Christmas! This will literally be the third year of me doing this, and I am stoked!
Those of you unfamiliar with this, all you have to do is write a Poem about Christmas! Simple, right? Well it was the past two years! So this year, I've decided to switch it up a little bit.
Your Poem cannot be about Christmas.
Now, I'm sure all of you are going like, 'whaaattt? Isn't that the point of this?' Well my friends, it is indeed. It's to embrace the holiday season! However, I think it would be interesting if your poem didn't focus around Christmas itself.
You see, the thing I love most about our lovely world is the variety of places, people, and just all the variety it has. So, this Winter Season, I am challenging you to write a Poem about a different characteristic of this winter season. Is it that hard? Am I confusing you already? Let me explain further.
Winter is such a beautiful season for the appearance it gives, the emotions we feel, the excitement, the family, the many holidays that aren't only Christmas. Don't forget about Hanukkah and Thanksgiving. The food could be just one main topic. Ehh, I suck at explaining things.
But please, try to think about this. Last year I had an inspiring entry by our winner Crazyflight who wrote a poem about how the snow was a canvas waiting to be painted on. I also received one about a relationship, but winter related. All I'm asking is you are creative, and come up with something relevant to the winter season that doesn't focus around Christmas. The holiday can be mentioned, but don't focus your poem around it. If I really murdered explaining this, send me a PM and I'll try to help you further. Spoiler
- As stated above, your poem may not focus all around Christmas. Be creative.
Do not plagiarize. Isn't that obvious? It annoys me so much when I get entries like this. It is wrong.
No word limit, but do not write me a novel; it's a simple poem.
On December 20th I will post the Top 6 since I think a top 9 may be too many. And a winner will tried to be posted on the 25th, but may end up being the 26th.

Gold and silver the morning brings
Smoke in the air, the grate winds sing
Spikes under foot sparkling green
Clouds overhead but no warmth they bring
Pictures of cobwebs line the hedges
Frozen in time their beauty amazes
The ground painted silver white
Sunlight brings beauty to the sight
Each beam that golden dances
Lights the crystal to melt the ice

Summer has left without a single trace.
Moved on to it's temporary resting place.
Creatures of every size and shape prepare themselves for Winter's wraith.
The change of colors,
From green to brown,
Signal Winter's soon to come around.
Winter has come,
Her bitter frost killing what dared defy her.
As they didn't heed her warning.
Creatures hide within their dens as an eerie calm blows in.
A white blanket covering the ground,
Coming in tiny flakes which never make a sound.
Winter has come,
Her cold melancholy song,
Floats along on wisps of white.
Stay with the warmth of family tonight,
As Winter's breath is quick to fright.
It is a quiet time of night.
Winter has come,
Her bitter lullaby plays softly,
As the whole world falls asleep.

Pure joy aloft in the merry air
chasing away the rich hues of the trees
ushering in the snow with great expectations
as if eyes became lecterns
holding the remnants of the stars
Hands clasped together
swinging in unihibited cheer
walk through a shimmering night
past dim glow
and glittering snow
to be tucked away inside walls of veneer
wreathed gate opens
pink and rosy cheeks smiling on another
warm embrace
leading with a waltz
rich aromas surrounding like tinsel
dancing up the steps and into the recesses of the halls
A solitary candle burns in the sill,
golden glow reflected upon darkened surfaces
angel's breath upon the glass
wooden door closes
shelter against fierce winds
leaves blow fresh and crisp, tumbling in play
down the lane
into the night
a single flame flickering cheerfully in the cool eve
