Creating a new topic always make me stress.
Editor's Directory
What is it?
Spoiler
Basically it's a topic where you can offer your services as editor/proofreader/translator/etc... or where you can ask for those services.

Well, sometimes writers like to have characters speaking another language because it's cool/more realistic/... but they don't speak that language themselves or they just know a few words, so they either try to do it themselves using what they know or use google translate (or another web translator). Google translate is nice and all but it sometimes ends up with really weird translations (particularly if the text you want to translate is long). Of course most of the time the reader doesn't speak that language either so he won't notice anything and all will be well.
Unfortunately for me my mother tongue is French (which may explain why this post is probably full of mistakes and weird sentences. Sorry.) and I do notice weird translations. And believe me I've seen a lot even in published books. Writers often use only one word here and there just to spice things up. Sometimes they even get it right. Most of the time it's the wrong word or they didn't get the gender right or they use the wrong determinant (gender may not seem important but I assure you wrong gender use sounds ridiculous if the character using it is supposed to be a French speaker). It's irksome but it doesn't really harm the story. When it's entire sentences that are wrong -they were cases where I didn't even understand what the character was trying to say, good thing they often repeat it in English after- it just spoils the story for me. The worst is that French speaking characters are often supposed to be the cool/elegant/refined ones but after that I think they just seem fake and ridiculous.
I know I'm probably a minority but please for the sake of accuracy and realism, if you need to use a foreign word in your story, have a native speaker (or someone who know the language really well) check it.
I hope I didn't sound too obsessed <.<
I also know that some people like to invent they own language complete with their own vocabulary, grammar, conjugation and even script. Why? well because it's fun. If that's your case and you don't mind sharing it with others you can post here as translator. There are people who like to use invented languages in their stories but don't want to bother with creating whole languages just to use a few words, they could be interested.

I know there's already people who've made topics offering their services as editor but I thought it would be nice to gather them in one topic so they'd be easier to find. And I wanted to keep track of the potential translators (even if they probably won't be needed much).
Besides people who are looking for a editor/proofreader/translator can post their request here too. So if you aren't a full-time editor/translator but you just want to do it once and earn some gold easily, or if you don't want to do it often enough to make your own shop, or if you are just nice and want to help for free, you can look here for people needing help.

WANTED: PROOFREADER
Level: any level
Status: FOUND Thanks!
My offer: it's a short story of 3253 words. I offer 3g/word ie 9753g but I have to warn you, I'm not a native English speaker so it's probably full of mistakes and weird turn of phrase (but you've probably already guessed it after reading this post <<). Plus I'm never sure when or how to use contractions... You'll have a lot to do.
