When I have writer's block, I research things that relate to what I want to write about, or I just get stuff done. When I feel productive and accomplished, ideas start flowing because I don't have any subconscious stress about something that I need to do weighing my brain down. Also, I write best when I have a prompt, so this site, http://www.typetrigger.com, is very useful for that. Also, if I still can't get anything written from those methods, I watch tv or read a book or roleplay or play video games until something subtle or not-so-subtle that relates to whatever I'm reading/watching/playing strikes up a mental spark.

I do get writer's block... the pain that all writers face. My method is a little odd but since the story I am writing now takes inspiration from real things this helps me out:

-See if you can find another book that involves the genre you are writing in-If you write fantasy, find a book that is of the fantasy genre and skim through it. Don't take the ideas, but I've found doing things like this gives me original ideas. For instance, last week I had no idea how to continue my story. Becoming bored, I started to play a video game. As the story and events unfolded in the game, inspiration struck. Now I know what to write, and I can continue.

However, this is a little easier for me since my story draws from magic and old japanese customs{things like this also include martial arts styles and traditions}

When I find myself facing the never ending wall of writers block, in which I do, I just:
1. Take a break (Don't overload your brain! It's OK to just relax)
2. I do this sometimes, it's really weird, but it helps: Write about the first thing that comes to your mind. Don't make it perfect. Don't make it good. Don't even think twice about what you're writing about! One time, I even wrote about Montana. This will help you relax, and eventually, you'll get an idea.
3. I agree with Saffrie. Totally. Read books, poems, novels, shorts, essays, textbooks, anything you can get your hands on. Normally, books have little mysteries that are never solved, find one of those and write about it!
4. Talk to your friends. It helps, it really does. They help you create characters, and sometimes have the best ideas just waiting for you to branch off of.
5. Explore! Do stuff. Anything. Sports, hiking, talking, listening to the radio, in the car, going to sleep, anything. Then imagine yourself as a totally other character. What would they do? What would they say? Elaborate. Put that character in more situations. Finally, a story will just pop into your head and be like, I'm an idea for a story! Use me!

Please note this stuff doesn't always work. It does with me, but maybe not with you. It is different for everyone.
I've been on a really long hiatus. I apologize for all delays! Thanks!
P.S. Mining in my keep is OK, except for 'No Touchy' Tab! Thanks!

For me when I get writer's block if I go sit somewhere outside where it's warm and quiet and all I hear is nature it helps clear my mind and get my imagination flowing
