Taggelisk, the Legend of the Blood Crystals

Post by Roseshine12 »

It's probably not too original of an idea, or a name anyway, but this is my legend. ^.^ I hope you enjoy it. :3 I sure enjoyed writing it at least and I guess that's all that matters in the end. :)

While there's no written proof, it's been said that some of the bloodiest battles in the Magi Wars took place at the Great Tagg river. Magi met Magi on this savanna day in and day out and it's believed that Taggelisk was one of the most frequent sites for Magi to battle. Because of this, the blood of magi and magical creature alike spilled into the waters of the Great Tagg and turned the waters red more often than they were clear. They say the proof is in the red gems found deep beneath the soil of the river. These gems are known as Blood Crystals by the locals. The reason they came into being was that there was too much blood for the soil to soak up and as a result, the soil and rushing water compressed the puddles of blood that continuously built up into the well known and feared Blood Crystals.

Whether or not there's truth to the tales, one can't say but it's obvious that these Blood Crystals have strong residual magical energy living within them. A Magi who studied them found a constant force of many magics straining all at once against each other in a swirling vortex of battle within the crystal, as if the magic had yet to realize the battle of its owners was over. However, it's been determined that it's simply the fact that so many magics can't exist in one place without them battling each other for dominance, especially considering there are magics within that aren't very compatible with each other. How that came to be, though, is unknown.

Once, one Magi even dropped a crystal and ended up shattering it on accident, releasing the magic built up inside of it. It rent the area in a 5 feet radius around it asunder. The Magi only survived because of his shielding magic. The energy within these crystals, while unclear if the crystals are truly the result of condensed magical blood, is volatile and should be handled with care. In fact, it's so volatile that they've been outlawed as a possible tool for the Magi to use, causing many to be sold on the Black Market instead considering its use as a weapon of destruction, especially if many are broken at once.

Magi still research the Blood Crystals, of course, to see if they can't somehow control the raging magics within its confines. Many people believe them to be the reason that Taggelisk is so wild. It's either too wet or too dry. The nutrients for farming are abundant in the soil but with the constant major floods and the impossibly dry seasons that make the soil so cracked it's like being in a desert, farming the land is nigh impossible.

Not only that, it's been told that there's so much residual magic energy that the reason ninety percent of people who venture into its wilds never come back is because of the fact it tends to manifest from time to time. It's not just the stagnant water and lack of water one has to worry about but the whirlwinds of magical energy that manifest into being. More often than not, they're very harmful and yet very few other times it's led people to treasures that make them rich. Many often manifest as a raging storm while the rest are simply lights, much like a will-o-the-wisp. It's believed that these ones are spirits of magi or others who have died in the wilds of Taggelisk and left something of value behind that they don't want left behind. These are the reason some tend to venture back to Ageti or Triathe with something of great value in tow.
