Arthur let out a deeper sound then he usually did, and pained groan that came from his horse chest and not his human. Then he cantered forward, stopping beside her. Hurt danced across his features, and made him avert his eyes.
"I do have faith in you...part of it is my nature, stallions are very, very protective of their mates. Centaurs take only one mate in their lifetime, and you are mine. The other is that I saw dryads get killed by something as simple as a human...I saw my family slaughtered by them...I do have faith in you, but it is in the rest of the world that my worry lies. And when Ysabel is out, I fear for all my friends, including her. After tonight I won't be so worried or frightened...I mean it." he murmured, stepping across her path and shifting on his hooves, nervous and upset. But the emotional hurt was most of what was plastered on his face.
Ysabel shifted, her crimson eyes opened wide in a sudden movement. And her jaws slammed shut on empty air, his hands around her throat keeping her from ripping his throat out. Anger radiated from her in waves, but deeper then that was a predators wild side. That part was what held her twisted wolf, and in that her form enjoyed best a hunt. To be kept from the greatest hunt of all - to hunt and kill as many humans as possible - was almost painful to that side, and for so long it had tried to get out and slaughter.
And now, the only night so far when that demon hadn't been there, a new one turns up, one that pathetic sane side professed to love. And one who professed to love her sanity.
Well, that would be cut abruptly short.
A grin came across her features, and then she thrashed as she realized how much of her body was pinned beneath him.
Her clawed hands came up, trying to slash at anything, her torso wriggling desperately. Suddenly, her anger was gone, replaced by any trapped animal's fear. She stank of it suddenly and fiercely, and her own fear made her movements more desperate, made her wriggle more fiercely and try to dig her claws into his more deeply.
Balin had never been able to do this. She had always gotten the drop on him, because he was too weak from the moon before. But now this demon was well-rested, and she was afraid. Oh so deeply afraid of what he would do.
