Mining?

Post by SocialBookWorm »

Hello there MagiStream Community! I'm a new player and I've heard a lot about goldmining from a friend of mine! Unfortunately, she's been on a hiatus until recently so all the links and tips she can give me seam outdated or don't work :\

I want to surprise her with a certain creature as thanks for something she's done but I can't gather up the muns for it and I can't ask her for help with that since it's a surprise!

So any tips and tricks when it comes to goldmining or just making muns in general would be appreciated! Please and thank you!!

I keep a quote in my profile for just such an occasion. :yarly: It's easy for me to reference after a break, but it might be a bit obtuse for someone who's never mined before. So...

Goldmining 101
•CloseIt
This is the important part. CloseIt is a small script that automatically closes a tab for you based on specified conditions. In this case, it closes any Magistream creature. With this script, you can quickly mine in any browser (although the process for installing it in a browser is different for each one).

Code: Select all

// ==UserScript==
// @name           CloseIt
// @namespace      Magistream
// @include        http://magistream.com/creature/*
// ==/UserScript==

window.close();
For Firefox you can use Greasemonkey, though you'll need to allow scripts to close windows. (I wouldn't recommend doing so unless Firefox is not your main browser for surfing the web. After all, you don't want someone else's script closing your windows.)
  • Type about:config into the address bar
    search for dom.allow_scripts_to_close_windows
    change the boolean variable to true
For Chrome, use Tampermonkey to install CloseIt. Chrome is my default browser, so I am unaware of any special settings for CloseIt to work properly.

•SnapLinks
SnapLinks or Multilinks or some extension for your browser that allows you to open a bunch of links at once. Both mentioned extensions allow you to drag a box around a clump of links and release to open them all. Which extension you use will depend on your browser. Just open up the extension interface for your browser and search for one.

•A Gold Mine
A sizable collection of unfrozen creatures in one place, such as the click threads in the reindeer games. Usually, in a dedicated goldmine, the creature's image will be replaced with a text character (ex. ♦) to make the page smaller and load faster. You'll use Snap/Multilinks to draw a box around a section of the mine which will open all the links, and then CloseIt will get rid of them all for you. Repeat with a new set of links when the process is complete.
A selection of image-free goldmines :
•Opera
With CloseIt and Snaplinks together, you can goldmine. However, you may find this process a bit slow and/or only be able to open a couple hundred links at once without locking up the browser. Enter: Opera.
I have yet to find a browser that can go through as many links as quickly as Opera. But something has changed with the more recent versions of Opera that slows it down for our purposes. So, you'll need an old version, which you can download here. This version from 2012 works for me.
The process for installing CloseIt in Opera is as follows :
  • Save the CloseIt script as a .js file in a Folder named JavaScript somewhere on your pc. (You can simply save it in notepad and change the extension from .txt to .js)
    In Opera go to settings > preferences > advanced > content and ensure the checkbox for "Enable JavaScript" is ticked
    Click the "JavaScript Options" button and direct it to your JavaScript folder
    Click ok for everything and restart Opera
♫♪♫"It will never be too late for you to cross the finish line; get back up again—try it one more time"♪♫♪
