I have been here only a little while and I've never done a quest before (I have some creatures that you only get from quests but they were gifts)
I was just wondering where to start? I know that some quests unlock new Shops to buy things from and I think I'd like to start with those, but I don't know what quests unlock them!
I would also like to know if there is a limited time quest that is running right now that I need to get to quick before it goes away?
Oh and are there levels of difficulty? I'd hate to start with a really hard one :x

As a newbie myself, I've found out that the current quests don't expire and don't have a time limit. You can also do them at your leisure, which means you can start all of them if you want to and finish them whenever you want to/have the required items for them. I've only done I think two quests myself, the one where you get the Lycanthrope and the one where you get the Quetzalcoatls. I haven't done the others yet, I don't think. Likewise, I have a couple quest critters that were gifts.

The two that I mentioned above seem to be the easier ones. If you want to join the Herbalist Guild, I think the quest was located at The Stream on the World Map and it's called The Hidden Path, I think. Maybe someone who knows for sure can clarify for me; I have a horrible memory.

All of the quests have walkthroughs available on the Magistream Wiki and they tell you what you need to do and where to go to complete them; it's very helpful!

I think one of the best ones for newbies might be the exploring-the-grasslands one and the exploring-Taggelisk ones.
Those are both repeatable, so once you are able to complete them once you can continue to complete them...
Taggelisk you can do once a Magistream day, grasslands you can do twice a magistream day. Each one has more than one possibility of reward; I think 3 for Taggelisk and, um. Hang on. Six? I want to say six... for the Grasslands.

Thanks guys I didn't realise you could start as many as you wanted without finishing other ones. This has also made me realise I need to figure out what Guilds are and I have gone and read up on them- I think I'll go into the Dark one. I have also rustled up the wiki page on Quests due to WillowA's advice, I hadn't seen it before.
I will keep your specific newbie quest suggestions in mind for when I start :3
