Re: "Banned" list
I think we should have a list; not with reasons or anything, but what does it matter?

Re: "Banned" list
I like the idea of marking the name/profile somehow, but not maintaining a public list.
That way, if anyone has unfinished business with that account, it's just a quick look at the profile instead of pm-ing a mod. Same result, less work, and much less wait.

Why not have both?razi wrote:I like the idea of marking the name/profile somehow, but not maintaining a public list.

Re: "Banned" list
I like the idea of having some kind of marking in the profile too, that way it is not 100% public and at the same time those who need to know can find out.

Re: "Banned" list
The reason I suggested the name modification as opposed to a list is because it would be easier. All that would need to be done is to create another forum rank, and whenever someone is banned, they get moved from "member" or whatever to "banned." No one has to maintain any lists, there is no room for discussion about "why was so and so banned," it's just a very modest, almost unnoticeable change except for those who might need to look for it. I do agree that such a change should only be implemented on perma-banned members. Why go through the hassle just to change it back anyway?

Unless it's an automatic thing. Once it's set with the board, your name is auto changed to ____ color and is changed back once the ban is over, if temp-ban is the case.MishaBaby wrote:The reason I suggested the name modification as opposed to a list is because it would be easier. What about being banned from a specific forum, like the MD or something?Soleil wrote:Unless it's an automatic thing. Also, I still don't see why we can't have both.

I feel like this would be a bit more trouble than it's worth. I realize we don't ban many people, but it just seems a little... much to expect. =|Soleil wrote:Unless it's an automatic thing. Why would they need to be identified if they are banned from a single board? =\ They're not banned from the site; they could put that info in their profile, and push come to shove, you can still PM them and they are able to respond if they so choose. I don't see the issue there.Crazyflight wrote:What about being banned from a specific forum, like the MD or something?

As far as both is concerned, while it would be nice to have everything we would like, we're attempting to devise a means by which we may have access to the information we occasionally need while being sensitive to the matter of personal privacy as well as the work-load that would be placed on whomever is tasked with carrying the solution out. It's a compromise. Compromise means you may not get all that you want, but at least you might get what you need.

Besides, even if someone's banned from a part of the forums they still have access to PMs, trades editing their sig/profile.MishaBaby wrote:

I really only care if someone is perma-banned. Because, like in Kt's case where someone who requested something in a raffle was banned that could really muck things up if they(the contest/raffle holder) doesn't realize that someone participating has been banned.
If marking someone's username with a different colour or that mini 'light' beside the name being red is too much of a 'public spectacle' (I don't really see how that is because it's not like it's being posted on the front page nor is it sayign why they were banned) then at least make it so all trade people have started with them are auto cancelled and make it so no new ones can be started (you could get a little msg just saying 'Impossible to trade with -user-' or something like that) and disable sending them PMs(same thing a msg would come up saying it's impossible to PM them) Then it's not 'public' in a way that everyone sees it, just those who are doing business with them.
