how about an eldritch abomination normally raised by dark or foolish/dangerously curious magi?
Cerverids might count to a degree but I'm thinking more along the lines of a true deep sea, creature from beyond the void, ELDRITCH ABOMINATION, just let some artist get crazy and put some old Lovecraft audio-books on for em, no need for anatomical correctness or coherent body structure!

In-fact they could just make the lore descend into incoherent nonsense if they're gonna get a bit more comedic about it

I think this would do best as something rare, a doni was the first thing to come to mind though an event might also fit, eldritch abominations loose some of their sheen when they're like squirrels.

I have an extreme obsession with mythical, magical, and speculative creatures, so I would love to suggest some.

I can think of a few at this moment: the Kongamato, Enfield, Nguma-Monene, Dahu, Crocotta, Leucrota, and I'll save the rest for different posts.
