MagiStream Commercial/Advertisement

Postby FrostBurn » June 7th, 2012, 10:21:22 pm

Am I the only one who has ever wondered if there could be a commercial for MagiStream? There is a couple of adoptable sites with commercials.

Though, I've never seen a commercial for an adoptable site with a Forum. Does that mean there can't be a commercial for an adoptable website with a Forum? I don't see why not. I don't know much about commercials and advertisements so if this isn't possible, sorry for asking/suggesting this.

I only see one problem with a commercial for MagiStream, and that is our foul language. Not that anything is wrong with foul language, but if a commercial was made, it would be somewhat directed to kids, even though the website is for 13+.

On the good side of a commercial being made, it would help with the money. Take a look at 'Operation Save MagiStream.' This only happened because Tristan wasn't sure if there would be enough money. Any kind of advertisement could change that from ever happening again. The more people who join, the more money that comes in, thus, not having us to worry too much about not having enough money for MagiStream.

As I said before, I don't know much about advertisements. This may be an idea some may take under consideration or something that is completely stupid and make people think 'Frostie what were you thinking?' Either way, this is just a thought I've wondered ever since I started becoming active on this site.

It might seem like a good idea, but I'm pretty sure MagiStream isn't a big enough company to be able to afford advertising. Putting those Ads on TV and on the sides of web pages? Costs money. So actually, creating advertisements could be a very risky idea. If they don't attract enough new users, that money is gone, and then MagiStream is in even worse trouble.
The big companies can afford to advertise because they're already making tons of money. :yarly: They can afford to risk losing some of it if an idea doesn't pay.

The biggest problem with say TV ads is cost. They are extremely expensive, even just for a local shop to run a commercial on a local station. Then, when you consider that Magistream is available all over the world... It would not at all be cost effective.
The other sites with advertising are small parts of much larger companies who can afford such things, and the revenue generated makes it worth it. I seriously doubt that enough donations would be generated by people coming to the site after seeing a commercial would pay for itself, even on a local level.

Now, maybe a spot in a Google Ad or something, I'm not sure about. But, since we don't HAVE ads on the site, I'm not sure that it would be kosher to have ads for us on others.

There's the idea of user-driven advertising - stuff like referral links. It wouldn't cost the site money.

I once tried google advertising. I bailed on it after spending $200 without a single new user from it.

I agree with the cost. That's what makes me think that maybe this is an idea we should put to the side or just forget.

Either way, MagiStream is going to get more users for the future without an advertisement or not. Right now, were nowhere near enough money is what I'm guessing, but could we in the future with the more donations to come?

Ouch. That would pretty much nix the advertising idea, then, wouldn't it?

Best advertising for most pet sites, is posting eggs in other places that allow them. It's how I found MS anyway.. clicked an MS egg in someones sig on another site.

However, I don't like constantly updating my sig, so I don't post my eggs.. BUT, I do try to post a link to my Keep in ALL my sigs.
