The Hobbit movie chat thread

Post by TOrideleKeto »

Sorry if this is considered spam. So, have you heard about the new The Hobbit movie, directed by Peter Jackson coming out next year? IT'S SO EXCITING!!!!!! So, I thought here we could talk about the book, the previous attempts at the movie (ugh, remember the animated one with singing and dancing) and the Lord of the Rings books and movie.

Truthfully, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are some of my favorite books and movies of all times. Dad introduced me to them when I was in preschool by reading me the books, and I've been obsessed with them ever since.

I'm excited, too! (Hence the avatar, lol.) It's too bad we have to wait so long, but I know it will be worth it!
I absolutely loved the trailer! It was great how they included the Dwarves' singing in it. So epic!

White are the far-off plains, and white
The fading forests grow;
The wind dies out along the height,
And denser still the snow,
A gathering weight on roof and tree,
Falls down scare audibly.

Sadly it seems that no matter where I go the books are out of stock and my older sister has this terrible habit of losing books. Which really sucks because I want to read all the hobbit centric books, and Silence of the Lambs, and many Mercedes Lackey books, AND God knows what other books she's read and lost before I had the chance to read them.

Movie speaking wise, my life will not be complete until I see both parts of this movie.

The Hobbit movie is decided into two halves? Like you get to the most exciting part and then it says that the final installment is coming to theaters next year? Nooooooo..... The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit are really good, but the Lord of the Rings takes a while to read, and has many sections in Elvish in the first book (nothing to important, just dialog. I want to try to translate sometime) I suggest you read the Hobbit first, then The Lord of the Rings will make more sense.

Both of the parts had better be 3 hours long.
Just saying.

I don't recall singing and dancing in the old animated versions. Songs, yes, but except for the Dwarves helping Bilbo clean up after dinner, I don't remember any characters singing, let alone dancing.
"... that's what Bilbo Baggins hates... so carefully! carfully! with the plates!" That's the only part I remember, lol.

Yes, I've read all the books, twice now, seen all the animated and recent movies. Looking forward to the new movie(s), but I worry about where they're going to cut it off at. I have high hopes for Smaug, when they get there. I hope I'm not disappointed.

Yes, 'The Hobbit' is coming in two movies, but they aren't splitting the book.
The first move 'An Unexpected Journey' is the story The Hobbit. The second one is actually a bridge story (if you will) between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings going through/over various events that happened between the two stories. And no, they aren't going to make it up either, if I remember rightly, it's based off of actual notes made my Tolkien himself.

I to am excited to see it. They even released the official trailer as well.

@TN, there were several songs in the animated one, and they were taken right from the book as well.
I wonder who they're going to have voice Smaug though. I mean, Christopher Lee has the right voice for it-the deep, commanding voice that a giant, evil dragon would have (and everyone in this house has agreed he would make a good Smaug).

I've read the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, seen the animated Hobbit and Lord of the Rings and the Live action Lord of the Rings. This movie is a must see. To bad I have to wait an entire year!

Ooooohhhh, that looks nifty! Now I'm REALLY excited to see it.

I remember the songs being in the animated movie. I just don't remember characters singing and dancing a'la Disney.

Oh, and call me Hawke. The "TN" is basically meaningless.

Haha, dancing dwarves, that's an amusing image. No, don't remember any goofy dancing. (the only dancing and singing dwarves I know are from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves)

Alright, I'll remember that for next time.

Suddenly I have the scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail... especially the line dancing knights in white.
