Since the change of rules, I'll make an 'equivalent' to shards deal. Obviously pets change every month, so these are subjet to change as earlier pets get more rare. You can choose any combination of the above for the shards. For example- I say '6 shards' that means you can pick either two 3 shards, or three 2 shards.
